In Memory... Anis Nazir 61_66
Ustad Muhammed Nazir by Anis Nazir.

Full Name : Muhammed Nazir Muhammed Yousef. Born on
12th, Aug.1909 with father an Imam in a mosque, Ustad M.Nazir started the career of teaching the mathematics at an early ageof 16 in Saila Primary School, Crater ( now it is a Military Museum )from where he was sent to United Kingdom for further study and to haveteacher training. On return to Aden he was promoted to Intermediate BoysSchool,Crater ( Now it is The Late Lutfi Aman Secondary School. )where he was teaching the Mathematics and Handicrafts ( bookbinding..etc.).When Aden College was established he was a member of the staffssince its setup and was teaching Mathematics to all classes; GCE. and Advanced level. In Aden College he established the photography section to enhance the art of photography, Award-of-Late-Mohamed-Nazirdevoloping and printing films. Also he has participated in some other activities.During 1953/1954 when Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth the Second visited Aden he was honoured with a medal and a certificate for his long service as a most efficient and loyal teacher.Ustad M. Nazir also was teaching in Teacher Training Center,Aden. And after his retirements he was teaching Mathematics in AdenTechnical Institute,Maalla.
He died in 1980.May his soul rests in peace.
Mr. M. Nazir had four offsprings :

Eng. Zahed M.Nazir, I.Eng.FIIE(Elect.)Senior Design Engineer.
Eng. Anis M. Nazir, Bsc( Hons.).Retired.
Eng. Masud M. Nazir, Bsc.Teacher.
Dr.(Med). Sohail M. Nazir, Phd.,M.D.Neurosurgeon, Senior Consultant.

I was one of the reasons why Nazir retired. He was so disappointed when he found that I was forced to do A level Maths.
E.g., He asked us to solve a problem in one line. We needed 3. He then did it in 2. So I screamed 2 is more than one. So he shouted you want to be a lawyer not an engineer.
In 1971 he came to the court in Crater with a power of attorney in English so he was directed to my office for notarisation. He was still afraid but soon relaxed when I said to him I only tease those who teach Maths like Muhairez.

In response to your call I can only write a para on Ustad Mohammad Nazir, the mathematician, photographer and good man. We got on well despite the fact that I did something else during his maths classes. I must be the only student he allowed to do so and we entered into a secret agreement which I will divulge in my long para on this unique teacher and human being, I can also claim to be the only A.C. ex-student to sit with him after London University in
A.C. staff room as a colleague, albeit for only 18 months. That was the time when you were my brilliant student. So bear with me and I will tell all a few happy recollections with and on Nazir.

Best regards.

I was probably the most favourite Maths. student that
Mr.Nazir ever taught. My father may Allah rest his soul, told me in the eighties when he visited me in Cardiff where I was studying for my doctorate, that Mr. Nazir had noticed me inventing short cuts in solving Maths. problems.
He also appointed me as his assistant in the Photography Club. He was a very meticulous person in developing films and pictures. He even trusted me with the key of the studio. He was an excellent teacher for good maths. students but impatient with boys who did not understand maths. He kept saying to them: " we don’t need only doctors, engineers and lawyers, but we
also need barbers and sweepers"
